Finsbury Park Transport Interchange
London, UK

Project outline
Finsbury Park is a strategically important interchange in North-East London. It is in Transport for London’s top 10 priority locations in their Interchange Plan.
The Finsbury Park Transport Interchange (FPTI) project has provided significant improvements to passenger facilities at one of the busiest interchanges outside Central London. The project spanned two sites the first being Wells Terrace bus station and the second being Station Place. Station place was the primary interchange point where the London Underground station, First Capital Connect over land station and the London Bus Station all merged.
The brief for the project was to improve the overall safety and security of the station and its approaches and enhance the services and information services for passengers. The enhancements to the security package were achieved by employing an extensive CCTV system networked across both phases of the site which could be monitored centrally with ease by the existing station personnel.
To complement the CCTV system a Public Address Voice Alarm system was installed at both Wells Terrace and Station Place these systems used fibre optic technology to create a fully integrated PAVA system which had satellite control points in addition to the central annunciation station.
There were improvements made to the existing Customer Information Systems for both TFL and First Capital Connect. These improvements were enhanced further by the design of the Station Place main concourse area which provided the station with a open airy perspective.
The works at Wells Terrace were completed in July 2005. The project at Station Place commenced as Wells Terrace finished. This required close co-ordination along with constant monitoring of the installation program to ensure that the Wells Terrace completion did not over run. The Station Place project and its integration was completed in November 2006.
These improvements have resulted in more reliable bus services, better access to buses, improved waiting facilities and a safer and more secure environment for staff and passengers using the station.
This landmark building has provide a larger entrance to Finsbury Park station for all station users including LUL and First Capital connect passengers, this has helped to reduce congestion and queuing times at the ticket hall counter and make passenger journeys a quicker and more pleasant experience.
